Ken & Melinda Cogley

Awana Missionaries to OH & WV

After moving to a new neighborhood in the 4th grade, Ken was invited to attend Sunday School at a local church. He enjoyed it and began attending Awana there also. God used those two activities to prepare his heart to accept the truth of the Gospel. At age 10 he put his faith and trust in Jesus.

Melinda trusted Christ as her Savior at age 7, and grew up in a Christian home. As a teen, she helped with Good News Clubs in the neighborhoods of Troy, OH.

Melinda and Ken met in 1985; in Troy, Ohio when Ken returned from the military. They worked with the youth at church as their relationship started. After they married in 1986 they continued as youth sponsors. Later, they moved to Northeast Ohio where Melinda began to serve in Awana as the Cubbies snack lady. Over the years following she was a Chums and T&T Leader, T&T Director and Sparks Director. Before their work together as youth leaders, Ken worked as a Pals Leader. In 2003 they assumed the Commander position at Old North Church in Canfield. Ken and Melinda joined the Ohio Awana Ministry Team in 2005 with a special interest in Bible Quizzing. Through involvement with the Ministry Team and the training received while attending Commander College at Awana HQ they experienced God giving them a passion for children's ministry. Realizing the urgency for reaching boys & girls with the Gospel, they have followed God's call to serve as missionaries to the children, families and churches of Ohio & West Virginia.

Garaway Released Time

Garaway Release Time is a ministry to the students of the Garaway School District, the community’s local public school.  For one hour each week, Garaway students of all ages can voluntarily attend an off-campus Bible study in small, specially designed buildings called cabins.  Valley View Community Church has supported Garaway Release Time for many years. Funding is constantly needed for teachers and up-keep of the cabins.

The goal of the ministry is to evangelize and teach basic Bible principles to the children and young people of the public school.  It is a unique opportunity presented to churches in the Sugarcreek area to support such a ministry within this context. Valley View Community Church is proud to support it and pray for its continued use to reach students for Jesus Christ.

Future Missions at Valley View

At the present time, 10% of all offerings at Valley View Community Church go into the church’s missions fund.  As a result, God has blessed the church financially. As we make the transition to our new church location in Sugarcreek, a renewed and increased focus on missions will be implemented at the church. This focus will primarily be on Church Planting Missions.

Church Planting Missions is the missions of the book of Acts in the New Testament.  It is missions that not only has the goal of evangelizing the lost, but also establishing churches in those areas where people have come to know Jesus Christ as Savior.  The effect is that when the missionary leaves, the ministry of the gospel and the teaching of God’s Word remains. It remains through the ministry of an established New Testament Church.

In the immediate future, Valley View Community Church will be seeking to financially support, and possibly participate with, church planting missionaries and missions all over the world.  The goal will be to involve our church ministry here in Sugarcreek in at least one church planting endeavor on every continent in the world.
